HOPEWORKS – what can I say, the most exciting hometown gig for me in a long while.

Why so special ?
Because it’s about returning to the place where I first got the bug, a pitch black warehouse in the city’s industrial heart. I see a whole new generation, more than eager to break off from the homogonised norms and seek out something fresh, the same way I did (except now everyone has a computer in their pocket)

What goes around I guess, but it’s more than that
Certain parties capture a feeling, a sense of place and time, and this one is just a little bit special.

Here’s a slice of me warming things up prior to the guests (who so far have included Blawan, Boddika, and for the next party – June 1st – the mighty Funkineven & Ossie)

And with the sun finally making an appearance and the wonderful Electric Elephant festival in Croatia now well within our sights, I thought it would be a good time to get the third Musica Adriaticus mix up here

It’s time for one of those big splurge posts I manage every few weeks (ahem)

No one has ever asked me where the spiritual home of our Big-Thing-In-A-Little-Basement party The Idiots Are Winning is.
But despite that, I’ll tell you anyway.

Although we host the party in London (usually) we occasionally take it ‘on the road’ so to speak
like, for example to this years Electric Elephant festival in Croatia, where we’ll be hosting another of those amazing boat parties, but you know that already.

The party was in fact conceived and loosely pieced together on that very boat some years ago.
My comrades in rave, Jake & Louis both come from Hebden Bridge
An enclave of the alternative tucked away in rural West Yorkshire. So it seems fitting then, that we return there for an Idiots knees up, in, where else, a little basement.

The fantastic Cowbell crew are hosting a big ol’ child-friendly all dayer in Blackpool on Sunday May 26th
Mr Scruff headlines, and it promises to be a great day, like they say ‘It’s all about music, art & kids taking part’

I’ll be playing a few at the after-party, so baby-sitters in the Blackpool area, get ready for a busy weekend !

The ever-growing and excellent TRAMLINES festival in Sheffield has come around again
Lots of amazing things happening, so be sure to check the line-ups and event details

I’ll taking part in what promises to be a serious night, as Sheffield goes toe to toe (or record to record more accurately) with Detroit !

After last year’s absolute smasher of a PARTY on the infamous Argonaught, we’re BACK !

We’ll be taking our beloved big-thing-in-a-little-basement on another small nautical tour of the Adriatic on Sunday July 14th (Night party)

Joining the resident Idiots, Jake, Louis & Chris Duckenfield
will be special guest Pete Herbert.

Pete was once proprietor at esteemed Soho record store Atlas
before joining forces with Balearic royalty Phil Mison to form the ever-so-brilliant Reverso 68 partnership.

Aside from striking out solo in the world of production (and remixing everyone from Royksopp & Roots Manuva to In Flagranti) Pete is also a dab hand behind the decks

as evidenced by his increasingly full schedule and excellent Music For Swimming Pools radio show on Ibizasonica.

This weekend (Oct 6th) I’ll be joining the lovely Luke Solomon at one of my favourite UK parties: FREAKIN for their 15th Birthday bash, and while Luke gets to making it all sweaty in the main room, I’ll be joining the Acid House Gentleman’s Club in the bar for a little bit of the other.

I’ll also be heading down to Bristol on Oct 13th to join the Bedmo Disco boys at their new GIRAFFE BOOGIE night…

We also have an amazing new venue for our THE IDIOTS ARE WINNING party…

Last Wednesday (26th Sept.) I dropped in at new Sheffield based live music venture ELECTRONIC SUPPER CLUB, they transmit every Wednesday, a host of supremely talented musical mavericks from the People’s Republic Of South Yorkshire, alongside a growing number of other talented types.
